Dear Parents and Carers

We have had a wonderful day today looking forward to, and celebrating the coronation of King Charles lll tomorrow. We had a celebration lunch  which included delicious crown biscuits made by Emma our cook.  After lunch the children spent time in their classrooms before coming together in the hall for a Coronation Party where the children were each presented with a commemorative Coronation pin.

Leading up to today we have been speaking to the children about the King's desire for a focus on service in the community and asking the children to think about what they can do to serve their community.  Please ask the children about their thoughts,

I hope that you all have a very special and enjoyable Coronation weekend.

Best wishes for a lovely weekend,

Valerie Elliott

School Notices

  • New Music Equipment - A big thank you to the PTA for funding some wonderful new music equipment. We now have a class set of glockenspiels, some musical white boards, and access to singing resources which were used in the school concert last week. Take a look at this week's blog to see the Robins practising their music writing skills. Its great that the talent of Stars In Their Eyes is being turned into musical resources for future generations!
  • St James' Marathon - last Friday the whole school came together for a festival of running for the return of the St James Marathon.  The aim of the day is to celebrate not only individual personal challenges but also to contribute to our class targets with teamwork. KS1 were aiming to run a full 26m marathon collectively and KS2 classes to run a marathon distance each.  The amazing total distance run by the whole school was 270 miles! Our fancy dressed runners added a colourful splash with an eclectic mix of outfits. Please check our blog next week for more  details and photos.  Congratulations must go to Yr2 Robins who ran an unbelievable 308 laps / 45 miles collectively, our Elite Race winner George Y6, with a close 2nd  for Riley Y6 and 3rd for Tom Y5.
  • Transition To Teenager In Girls Project -
The University of Edinburgh is conducting research into understanding mental health and puberty in girls as they transition into adolescence and secondary school, and is aimed at girls aged 11-13.5 when they sign up.  Please see the flyer on the Portal for further information and pass this information on to anyone who may be interested.
  • Sports Day Thursday, 25th May - there is a letter on the Parent Portal giving details for our Sports Day.  Please read the letter carefully as our usual format has changed slightly.  The letter also contains a link for parents to let us know if they are able to lend a gazebo for the day.
  • Peace Event Invitation - the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community would like to invite the school staff, parents and children to the Peace event on Saturday 13th May at 6:30 pm at Elstead Village Hall. They have organised this event in partnership with St James Church.
