Common, Worms and Blubber!

Last Friday Penguins had a busy day exploring their surroundings using their senses.  In the morning we visited the common with our Year 6 buddies where we took part in two activities.  Firstly, we pretended to be birds looking for different coloured 'worms', some were easier to find than others due to their colour.  Next, we helped to build see-saws for Year 6 who were looking at fulcrums, mass and levers.

After lunch we had fun thinking about how animals stay warm in Antarctica, talking about fur and fat.  We took part in a science experiment - we measured how long we could keep our hand in a bowl of iced water with the help of an extra layer of fat in the form of lard.  Mrs B did not manage very long, but Jack managed 48 seconds - wow!
