a Church School
St James Primary is a church school within the Diocese of Guildford and we work closely with our local church, St James and its Rector, Rev Hannah Moore. https://parishesofetsph.org.uk/about-us/st-james-church/
The children visit the church regularly, for services and activities and we welcome families of all faiths and no faith. The children have assembly every day, in class and as a whole school.
Our Christian vision is Zephaniah 3:17, which says, 'The Lord your God is with you, a Mighty One, who will save. He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will renew you with His Love, He will rejoice over you with singing.'
Through our vision our aim is to develop children's spirituality, allowing them to flourish. Our recent Church Inspection (SIAMS) noted that
"The school’s joyful and inclusive Christian vision is at the heart of leaders’ decisions and actions. Governors and leaders rigorously monitor and review its impact, ensuring accountability and continuous improvement. The vision is interpreted through the lens of inclusion, woven throughout school life...The Christian vision inspires a community grounded in care, compassion and mutual responsibility. This is seen across the curriculum. Pupils are calm, regulated and ready to learn. Wellbeing provision encourages them to think beyond themselves and recognise their place in the world."

Through our work as a Church school , we want our children to thrive by developing their spirituality, no matter what their faith background. We have worked out a programme of opportunities for children to feel spiritual, inspired by work from the Church of England.
