Belonging in Woodpeckers
In PSHE Woodpeckers have been looking at what belonging means. We discussed what it felt like to belong somewhere, and also how it feels when you don't. We then wrote a line or two each and combined our lines to create group poems. Here's what we came up with as a combined super poet:
(If you need inspiration for the Inter-House Photography Competition - you've come to the right place!)
The Blue Group
If you belong in a group or something like that,
you will feel happy like you're in a big family.
I belong to my family
and my cousins
and my nan and grandad.
...we belong in a family
a school
a class
it forms a group.
When you don't belong you feel sad and lonely.
Not belonging makes people feel sad so let them join in.
I feel sad when I don't belong.
I feel good when I do belong.
It's okay to be afraid of not belonging.
Just enjoy yourself.
Belonging feels happy.
Belonging feels joyful.
The Yellow Group
It is fun to belong in a group or a club.
People who are in a group do not feel on the wrong side of a hoop.
When you feel belonging you feel happy and loved.
It's okay to feel angry, sad or confused - everyone will help.
You belong where you want to.
The Green Group
I belong in my family.
When you feel belonging it's a good feeling .
You belong everywhere.
The Pink Group
When you belong you feel happy.
You make others feel happy too.
If you don't, you feel lonely.
You make others lonely too.
When I belong in a group I feel safe
because there are people I know and trust.
Not belonging feels like you aren't appreciated
it's like a punch to the tum-tum.
People can feel they do not belong there.
It could be easy.
It could be hard.
Belonging - when you feel you're meant to be.
The Peach Group
When you feel part of a group you are happy.
I can trust the people who are in the group.
I feel really good and like I belong.
I like to be a part of games.
I like belonging to two football clubs.
Winning together makes winning more fun.
It's fine to be scared.
You can be sad in different ways.
You can tell people.
Belonging is happiness.
